¿Cómo extender la vida de mis velas?

How to extend the life of my candles?

My perfect plan after a long day at work: put on comfortable clothes, search for my favorite series on Netflix and light a candle.

But it has happened to me that when I turn them on, it starts to smell like smoke instead of that aroma that I need to mentally teleport to that paradisiacal place where I would like to be.¿has happened to them ¡Well they are not alone!

We often blame the candle, when in fact the problem lies in how we light our candles.

Experience and a little research taught me how to prevent this from happening and enjoy your scented candle for longer. So let's talk about the basics first:

The burning time of a candle is related to three main factors:

1. Your weight.
2. The quality of your wax and wick.
3. The environment in which it is placed.

Our candles weigh 8.5 ounces and 4 ounces in their two packs, so that gives us approximately 60-70 hours and 15-20 hours of burn time, respectively. So you have candle for a while!

For the second factor, the soy wax we use is high quality, 100% organic, with no additives, and our wick is 100% braided cotton. Then check with these first two factors!

Here comes the most important part: this last factortotally up to you!So we leave you a list that you must take into account to make the aroma elevate the environment:

1. Avoid placing your candle in a draft.

This way you will prevent its combustion from accelerating, in addition, spaces with a lot of moving air can cause uneven burns, smoke and a diminished smell. Ideally, place it away from doors and windows. For example; in the center of the living room or on the table next to your bed, in this way you will enjoy the aroma more for much longer.

2. Do not let your candle burn for more than 4 hours.

Both for safety and to prevent your candle from fading and allow maximum aroma diffusion.

On the contrary, avoid turning it on for less than 30 minutes, since the surface must completely melt before turning it off and avoid tunneling; this means that the center of the candle melts faster than the sides, making it difficult to light the wick the next time you light it.

3. Trim the wick regularly.

You should trim approximately 0.5 / 0.8 cm above the level of the wax before relighting your candle.

Tip: Nail clippers work perfect for doing this.

Thus we ensure a brighter and cleaner burn without black smoke, we also prevent the burned wick from "mushrooming".

With candles in glass jars, overextended wicks can cause dark, smoky spots to form along the sides and top of the jar.

4. Avoid blowing to turn it off.

You can wet the wick or use a damper, but never blow! Blowing on it will cause black smoke and the aroma will be lost in the room.

5. Don't burn your candle to the end.

I know we don't want to say goodbye to our favorite candle, but our safety always comes first.

Burning candles to the point where all the wax is gone can cause glass jars to overheat and break. You can stop turning it on and buy another when you notice that there is about 1 cm of wax left in the container.

We hope that these 5 tips will help you get that extra bit out of them so that they always look perfect and you can enjoy their aroma to the fullest.
